BIRD FLU: State Attorney General Letitia James issued an alert on Wednesday warning companies against illegal price gouging during a national bird flu outbreak that has impacted poultry and dairy farms across the country. State law prohibits businesses from jacking up the prices of essential goods during supply disruptions, a widespread issue during the Covid-19 pandemic. James encouraged residents to report suspected price gouging, which can carry a penalty of up to $25,000 per violation.
RFK HEARINGS: Members of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee grilled Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about his views on vaccines, abortion and Medicare and Medicaid spending during his first day of confirmation hearings to become the nation’s health secretary, Modern Healthcare reports. Democratic lawmakers drilled down on Kennedy’s history of spreading misinformation about vaccines, while Republicans focused on reforms that could address the country’s underlying chronic disease challenges. Kennedy will be questioned by members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee at 10 a.m. today.
