LENOX HILL EXPANSION: Northwell Health has filed a land-use application for a multi billion expansion of Lenox Hill Hospital. The health system unveiled plans in 2019 to expand Lenox Hill and build a new 30-story hospital building, growing from roughly 740,000 to 1.3 billion square feet. But the plan, which requires years of construction and zoning changes, has been met with opposition from community members because of an oversaturation of hospitals on the Upper East Side and the need for investment in lower-income neighborhoods. The Department of City Planning anticipates that the zoning application will begin the formal land-use review process early this year, said spokesman Casey Berkovitz.
LONG COVID: Roughly 80% of New York City residents who’ve been infected with Covid-19 had at least one symptom that lasted a month or longer, with fatigue and decreased exercise tolerance being the most common lingering ailments, according to a survey released last week by the city Health Department. Moderate long-term symptoms were more common among Latino and Asian and Pacific Islander populations than in white individuals, and people who lived in poverty were more likely to have moderate or severe lingering symptoms. The survey, conducted in November and December 2022, includes responses from more than 2,000 New Yorkers.
EYE CLINIC: Union Square Eye Care is moving and renovating its extension clinic at 235 Park Ave. South in Manhattan. The project, which will relocate the clinic nearby to 32 Union Square East, will cost $2.9 million, according to a filing with the state Department of Health. As part of the move, approximately 5,500 square feet will be renovated at the site of the new clinic. The new office will have more space, with 14 exam rooms as opposed to the 10 at the current site, but will not add more staff, the filing states.
