EMERGENCY ROOM UPGRADE: NYU Langone is planning to add a CT scanner to the emergency room on its Manhattan campus to accommodate growth in emergency room visits, according to a certificate-of-need application it filed with the state Department of Health last week. The hospital, located at 550 E. First Ave., has seen an uptick in ED visits year after year, according to the application, requiring another scanner so it can keep up with demand. The project, which is expected to cost $5.1 million, will require NYU to renovate roughly 800 square feet of its emergency room to fit the new scanner.
SURGICAL SAFETY: Bellevue Hospital has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for surgical safety by the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses, the public hospital system said Tuesday. The association, which represents operating room nurses, acknowledged Bellevue Hospital’s nursing team for its efforts to reduce surgical smoke from patient environments, a byproduct of surgical instruments that can harm patients’ health, according to New York City Health + Hospitals. Approximately 800 surgical teams across the country have received the designation, the association said.
