VAPE LAWSUIT: The city filed a federal lawsuit against nine major vape distributors for selling illegal e-cigarette flavors such as pink lemonade, watermelon, banana and lychee in city retail locations and online, Mayor Eric Adams said Monday. The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, seeks to block distributors from selling illegal flavored vape products, which are addictive and especially appealing to teens, as well as bar the companies from selling products online in accordance with state law, according to the mayor’s office.

COOLING CENTERS: The City Council’s Committee on Health is holding an oversight hearing today at 10 a.m. on the city’s cooling centers. The hearing will look at the effectiveness of the program in reducing heat-related deaths, which claimed 570 people last year who were disproportionately Black, according to data from the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The lawmakers will also consider legislation to codify the cooling center program into law. The hearing will take place in the Committee Room at City Hall and will be live streamed on the Council’s website.
