Brooklyn Mirage Fails Inspection, Cancels Opening Weekend Shows

After Brooklyn Mirage CEO Josh Wyatt pledged to be “100 percent” ready for a May 1 launch, the venue was forced to cancel its opening day performance from Sara Landry just hours before she took the stage. And the weekend’s not looking too promising, either.

According to a Brooklyn Paper report, the Department of Buildings put three of the venue’s construction permits on hold after they failed to meet the city’s safety standards in their final pre-show inspection. “Our administration has been in ongoing communication with the owners of the Brooklyn Mirage to ensure their site meets the necessary structural and safety codes,” a City Hall rep said. “Unfortunately, the venue does not currently meet the standards required for either a permanent or temporary structure,” they added. The venue has also been barred from hosting shows this weekend, cancelling the debut of a Black Coffee residency, along with performances from Austin Millz and City Fox.

Brooklyn Mirage is offering immediate refunds for those who bought tickets to any of the shows impacted by the hurdle in their opening. “We want to be clear: the venue is show ready and the New Mirage has been built to exacting safety, structural, mechanical and technical specifications,” the venue wrote in a statement on Instagram (see below). “However, we were not able to meet the final inspection deadline today. Abiding by all appropriate city, local and building authorities is paramount to our core value.”

Brooklyn Magazine has reached out to Avant Gardner, the venue’s parent company, for additional comment.
