ICYMI: George Gresham, longtime president of labor giant 1199SEIU Healthcare Workers East, was voted out of his leadership position over the weekend amid turmoil within the union, Politico reports. After nearly two decades at the helm, Gresham was defeated by Yvonne Armstrong, who oversaw the union’s long-term care division. The upset comes as the union scrutinizes its spending under Gresham, who reportedly used members’ dues to benefit himself, his family members and his political acquaintances, prompting federal lawmakers to call on the Department of Labor to further investigate. Gresham’s term will end in June.
