A 290-key luxury hotel near the Empire State Building has been sold for $175 million, records show.
BRE Hotels & Resorts, a Blackstone-owned hospitality platform, has acquired the upscale Kimpton Eventi Hotel at 835 Sixth Ave. under an entity named after the address, according to a deed that appeared in the city register Tuesday and information from CoStar. Brian Lin, managing director of Blackstone’s real estate group, signed on behalf of the buyer, records show.
In January BRE was rumored to be in the process of scooping up the 23-story inn, between West 29th and West 30th streets, Bloomberg reported at the time. The final deed, however, was signed May 1, city records show. The acquisition includes the hotel’s 292 rooms, its three restaurants and a 450-spot parking garage.
Michelle Gelshteyn, managing director at Blackstone, said in a statement that the firm was “thrilled” to buy the property, especially as the city’s hotel occupancy rate continues to bounce back from its pandemic lows. The most recent occupancy rate for hotels across the five boroughs is 85% — the highest in the country and well above the nationwide average of 63% — Crain’s reported this week.
Opened in 2010, the upscale hotel was sold by the entity 835 6th Ave Master LP, which records show is associated with the development firm JD Carlisle. Neal Peskind, senior vice president at Colorado-based asset manager BetaWest, signed the deed on behalf of the seller, records show. Information from CoStar, however, indicates that the previous owner was private equity group DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners. The relationship between BetaWest, JD Carlisle and DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners is not immediately clear, and attempts to reach them were unsuccessful by press time.
Harry Silvera, a partner at Midtown-based law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, which represented the buyer, also did not return a request for comment by press time about the ownership structure of the seller.
