A private early education center designed for kids 6 weeks through 6 years old is gearing up to open a new location on the Upper East Side, the building owners and school operator announced this week.
The Goddard School, a national chain that made its debut in the city on the Upper West Side in 2011, has inked a 15-year lease at 307 E. 63rd St., said landlord Albert Kalimian. It will be the firm’s second location in the neighborhood; the first is at 1725 York Ave.
Founded in 1988 in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, the Goddard School plans to occupy 15,461 square feet across the first and second floors of 307 E. 63rd, between First and Second avenues. The upper levels of the mixed-use, 17-story building, known as Kenton Place, are occupied by 110 residential units.
The cost of tuition at the Goddard School is not publicly available on its website, which says its rates vary based on the local market, as each location is individually owned and operated. In Manhattan, however, tuition for infants can cost up to $4,000 a month while skewing slightly less for toddlers, according to a post on Reddit that was not independently verified by Crain’s. If true, that’s about $48,000 per year.
The new location is expected to open early next year. Permits filed with the Department of Buildings this week indicate plans to convert office space on the first and second floors into recreational space for the school, records show. The third floor of the building, spanning about 12,600 square feet, is currently vacant.
It’s unclear how much the school is paying for rent, but the price per square foot for retail and office space on the Upper East Side ranges from about $50 to $130, according to LoopNet.

The school’s other locations in Manhattan are at 315 Ave. C in StuyTown, 751 Second Ave. in Murray Hill and 2495 Broadway on the Upper West Side.
