MIFEPRISTONE PETITION: New York and three other states submitted a petition asking the Food and Drug Administration to drop restrictions on mifepristone, the abortion medication, as part of a review of the drug’s labeling requirements that was ordered by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Attorney General Letitia James and her counterparts in California, Massachusetts and New Jersey filed the petition on Thursday seeking to remove reporting and certification requirements that are typically attached to drugs with serious health risks, even though serious complications with the drug are rare.
STAFFING RALLY: The New York State Nurses’ Association held a rally Thursday about what it deems a staffing crisis at Albany Medical Center. One year ago, the state Department of Health launched an investigation into staffing practices at the hospital and issued corrective plans to address patient care concerns, yet it has not issued fines to enforce staffing changes, according to the union. Nearly a thousand nurses represented by the union signed a petition to urge Albany Medical Center leaders to negotiate a fair labor contract, including by addressing staffing concerns, NYSNA said.
