FIRST HEART TRANSPLANT: Northwell Health’s Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park performed its first heart transplant a few weeks after getting state approval to run a pediatric transplant facility, the health system said Tuesday. Physicians performed the procedure on March 28 on a child from Queens who came to the hospital with acute heart failure, Northwell said. The pediatric heart transplant center is located within a $110 million surgical complex that opened at Cohen’s in 2022.

AGE-FRIENDLY SERVICES: Maimonides Health has received a $250,000 grant to expand age-friendly programs for older patients. The Borough Park health system received a two-year grant from the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, a Midtown-based philanthropy organization that has funneled a total of $1 million into Maimonides to bolster services for elderly New Yorkers. Maimonides will use the most recent grant to support an existing program for emergency and admitted patients, help its nursing homes meet age-friendly standards and create a new initiative to support caregivers of older adults.
