MAYORAL ENDORSEMENT: Health care union 1199SEIU is backing Andrew Cuomo’s run for mayor, becoming the latest labor organization to endorse the former governor. The union endorsed Cuomo on Friday, citing his “record of delivering for health care workers” and his efforts as governor to increase the minimum wage to $15 and expand paid family leave. 1199SEIU is backing the former governor after union President George Gresham called for Cuomo’s resignation in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations. Cuomo has received endorsements from other powerful labor unions including Hotel and Gaming Trades Council and 32BJ SEIU, who backed Mayor Eric Adams in the last election. 1199SEIU endorsed Maya Wiley for mayor in 2022.

CDPAP PAYMENTS: Public Partnerships LLC, the company tasked with paying home care workers within the state’s consumer-directed personal assistance program, has issued paychecks to 155,000 personal assistants since taking over the program on April 1, the company said Friday. PPL has paid $240 million in wages to a fraction of caregivers who have tried to transition to the new payment system; at least 250,000 home care workers have started registering with the new system as of last Friday. Home care users and workers have raised concerns about missing payments and challenges submitting their timesheets since PPL took payroll processing. The company said that workers who submit their timesheets by midnight every Saturday will receive payment by the following Thursday.
