CORRECTION: New York City Health + Hospitals’ new contract with Managed Resources includes the same 12% contingency fee as the previous contract. This information was updated in the article, “Health + Hospitals expands contract with outside firm to challenge medical claim denials,” in Tuesday’s Health Pulse.
MEDICAL AID IN DYING: The state assembly passed the Medical Aid in Dying Act on Tuesday after a decade of scant movement in the legislation. The bill would let doctors prescribe medication to end a person’s life if they are terminally ill and deemed not to have longer than six months to live. Tuesday’s passage marks the first time the bill moved out of committee to a floor vote since it was first introduced in 2016. To become law, the act must still be passed by the state Senate and signed by the governor. The bill has not been scheduled for consideration in the Senate.
NONPROFIT PAY: The City Council’s committees on contracts and children and youth will hold a joint oversight hearing on Wednesday about delayed payments to nonprofit services providers contracted by the city. The committees will also consider legislation related to nonprofit contracting. Speaker Adrienne Adams will hold a press conference with Council Members and providers on the steps of City Hall at 9 a.m. ahead of the hearing at 10 a.m. The hearing will be livestreamed here.
