PUBLIC HEALTH LAYOFFS: The state Department of Health is moving to lay off more than 200 workers after President Donald Trump’s administration abruptly cut $360 million in public health grants, Gothamist reported Friday. The agency has already laid off 50 employees and informed 168 public health fellows that their program will end early because of the loss of funding. The layoffs come after the federal government terminated $12 billion in Covid-19 relief funding last week – a move that is being challenged by New York and nearly two dozen other states.
SENIOR LIVING: Atria West 86, a senior living facility on the Upper West Side, is undergoing a $7.7 million renovation in accordance with its resident safety plan, according to a filing with the state Department of Health. The work will involve the construction of a new mechanical room to house the residence’s air conditioning unit. It will also rearrange the layout to add dining space and relocate the facility’s wellness offices, the filing states.
