DATA SCIENCE INSTITUTE: Montefiore’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine launched a data science institute to help researchers analyze large biomedical datasets to discover ways to prevent disease or develop treatments, the institution said Tuesday. The institute, funded by a $7 million gift from an anonymous donor, aims to provide resources for students and trainees seeking to navigate massive datasets, including those generated from electronic health records, medical imaging, pathology or remote health monitoring devices. Dr. Mimi Kim, who heads the division of biostatistics within the department of epidemiology & population health, was named inaugural director of the new institute.
BUDGET HEARINGS: Executive budget hearings begin this week in the City Council with an oversight hearing on Wednesday on proposed spending for the Department for the Aging. The committees on aging and finance will hold the hearing at City Hall at noon. The proceeding will be livestreamed on the Council’s website.
