You’ve seen movies. You’ve been to the park. But have you ever once considered these time-tested standards of summer in Brooklyn might just pair really well together? If not—or, frankly, even if you have—we’re quite thrilled to announce the return of “Movie Nights in Brooklyn,” our seasonal slate of screenings in some of the borough’s most cherished (and verdant!) public spaces.
In partnership with Paramount+, and the sustained support of Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, the Prospect Park Alliance, the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, McCarren Park, and The Alliance for Coney Island, we’re setting up shop in four iconic parks this summer—adding a whole new screen and the breaktaking backdrop of the Coney Island boardwalk—to bring you 16 free-as-can-be movies, as well as DJs, snacks, giveaways, and top-secret special guests.
There’s something for every strain and age of cinephile this year. You can relive your ’90s fashion girlie phase with Clueless in Fort Greene, tap into late-aughts high school bureaucracy with Mean Girls in Prospect Park, take a trip down to Bikini Bottom with The Spongebob Squarepants Movie in the People’s Playground, or catch a scare or two with Shutter Island in McCarren.
So if you ever find yourself wondering where to be in June, July, or August, this is it. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to have you. “Movie Nights” takes off on Friday, June 13, in McCarren Park, which is being presented in partnership with Pluto TV.
