The New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom Thibodeau, fresh off their first appearance in an Eastern Conference final since 2000.
The Knicks are “singularly focused on their pursuit of a championship” and decided to move in a new direction, Knicks President Leon Rose said in a statement.
Thibodeau, who was hired by the Knicks in 2020, is widely credited with helping to take the franchise out of a slump that saw the team make the playoffs just three times between 2010 and 2020.
The Knicks were eliminated from the NBA playoffs on Saturday by the Indiana Pacers in six games.
