Tiffany Trump is pregnant, as her father Donald Trump revealed at a campaign event in October. On Sunday, April 6, Tiffany’s half-sister, Ivanka Trump, threw her a Peter Rabbit–themed baby shower in Miami, which was sweet of her:
Less sweet: Tiffany’s stepmother, Melania Trump, did not attend the shower.
And downright savage: the reason “a Florida source” gave People for the First Lady’s absence:
However, PEOPLE confirms that neither Tiffany’s father nor her stepmother, first lady Melania Trump, were present at the celebration — a detail that the source says isn’t “surprising.”
The Florida source said they didn’t think there was “any reason” for Melania to attend Tiffany’s shower, noting that the first lady — who began dating Donald when Tiffany was about 5 — “has her own schedule, even on weekends.”
PEOPLE is told that Melania was busy with her son, Barron, 19, over the weekend.
Now, obviously, Melania herself did not say she didn’t see “any reason” to attend the shower, and it’s possible the source is wrong. But just the fact that Melania wasn’t there is really something. The event was attended by all the other women in the president’s extended family, including Tiffany’s mother, Marla Maples; her sister-in-law Lara Trump; and even Don Jr.’s new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson:
Kari Lake and Don Jr.’s ex Kimberly Guilfoyle sent well wishes in the comments on Tiffany’s Instagram post:
But Melania didn’t even leave a “So sorry I couldn’t be there!” comment. Apparently, even a low-effort display of affection for her stepdaughter of 20 years would clash too much with the First Lady’s carefully cultivated “I really don’t care do U?” vibe.
