These are the 25 largest minority-owned businesses in the New York metro area

Crain’s released its latest list of the largest minority-owned businesses in the New York area this week, and New Jersey-based packaging company Sigma Plastics Group claimed the top spot once again. The largest firm in the city proper was Midtown-based staffing agency Pride Global.

The list is based on 2024 revenue as self-reported by the companies. To qualify, businesses must be headquartered in the New York metropolitan area and at least 50% owned by individuals from racial minority groups. The rankings encompassed companies from across the five boroughs as well as Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union counties.

There were four newcomers to this year’s list: Harlem-based Carver Federal Savings Bank, Bronx-based Cooperative Home Care Associates, Manhattan-based Bandujo Advertising and Design, and Queens-based Crystal Window & Door Systems Ltd. The latter, long one of the region’s largest minority-owned companies, returned to the list after opting out in recent years.

Four names from last year’s list did not crack the top 25 this time: Business Relocation Services, Inc., New York Business Systems, Proftech Corp. and US Aerials & Equipment LLC. They had all been near the bottom of the most recent rankings with revenue under $15 million.

The area’s 25 largest minority-owned businesses posted a combined $6.19 billion in revenue last year, marking a roughly 7% increase from the previous year. Sigma Plastics accounted for more than a third of that dollar figure.

The majority of the companies on the list are Asian- or Hispanic/Latino-owned, and just four are Black-owned.
