With this year’s FIFA World Cup set to begin, Mayor Zohran Mamdani introduced a collection of three New York City-inspired jerseys produced for the tournament, which will played in part in New Jersey.
“Jerseys represent more than just the team you support,” Mamdani told GQ. “They are about pride in where you come from and who you are.”
The jerseys—which feature a soccer-ball-style Big Apple below the left shoulder and a pigeon on the right, alongside “New York City” on their chest—come in black and white, yellow and black, and blue and orange colorways, with 500 of each produced. They’ll be available in the NYC City Store tomorrow, June 12, at 9 a.m. Notably, they’ll go for about $50 apiece—significantly less than the cost of an official World Cup jersey.

The pieces are the work of Mazzi, a company that’s produced jerseys in Bed-Stuy since 1983. (Its founder, Alexander Campaz, started his jersey business in Colombia in the ’70s.)
“With this limited run, we are offering New Yorkers an affordable jersey made for New Yorkers, by New Yorkers,” Mamdani said.
