PATHOGEN PREPAREDNESS: Bellevue Hospital has partnered with the Japan Institute for Health Security in Tokyo to develop protocols for managing emerging infectious disease threats, New York City Health + Hospitals said Wednesday. The public hospital system signed an agreement with the Japanese agency to share resources on infectious disease preparedness, collaborate on research projects and train health care workers. The agreement marks Bellevue’s second international partnership after it announced a similar collaboration with South Korea’s National Medical Center in April.

SUPPORTIVE HOUSING: The recently passed state budget allocated $46 million to social service providers to operate supportive housing for people with mental illnesses, veterans and domestic violence survivors, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Wednesday. The funds will flow through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative, which offers providers up to $34,000 annually per unit to provide services such as rental assistance, behavioral health and child care to people who have experienced homelessness. The program, run by the Office of Mental Health, has funded supportive services in 9,600 apartments to date.
