The heat dome is coming. According to the National Weather Service, a high-pressure system parking itself over a large part of the continent will force temperatures to well over 100 degrees in the coming days. You can expect the mercury spike to last into the weekend.
Try though you may, you—and a good chunk of the country—won’t be able to escape the heat dome. But there are ways to cope with (blisteringly) hot summer days, chief among them swimming. And thanks to the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation’s public pools, Brooklynites can take a refreshing dip for free.
To make sure you’re not just staying inside and running up your electric bill via air conditioning during this debilitating summer anomaly, here’s a list of public pools in Brooklyn you can visit to try to keep your body cool and your mind off the heat. The pools are open from 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. every day, except from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., when they shut down for cleaning.
